It is involuntary sleeplessness or the inability to turn off the consciousness to enter a state of deep rest.
Medically speaking, individuals are diagnosed with insomnia sleep disorder when they are unable to initiate or sustain uninterrupted sleep for at least three out of seven nights. Interruptions must amount to for at least 30 minutes a night and such condition has to be present for several weeks.
Do not fear if you experience irregular sleep interruptions or short periods of sleeplessness every once and then. This is normal and a consequence of life’s vicissitudes. In the vast majority of cases such periods will pass and your sleep will revert to normalcy.
If you do not feel refreshed after you have slept for a sufficient amount of time then this is not insomnia, but some other kind of condition that may require further investigation.
What does this mean for you?
